VINLAND ELEMENTARY PTSA
BOARD AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES for 2024-2025
The Mission of Vinland Elementary PTSA is to enhance the educational experience of the children and their families by working in partnership with the teachers, educational staff, and local community. The PTSA gives each child a voice while providing safe, fun, and educationally enriching activities supported by its own fundraising. Current volunteers are listed - feel free to ask them questions! Each one welcomes a co-leaders as well.

The Vinland PTSA is a volunteer non-profit group led by an elected Executive Committee.
MEET OUR CURRENT OFFICERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
PRESIDENT: Jennifer Dixon
This position leads the PTSA towards specific goals chosen by the members; works closely with the Principal; creates agendas for and presides at Executive Board and General Meetings; works with the Treasurer and executive board on developing and implementing budget.

VICE PRESIDENT: Kirstie Litten + Adam Bishop
This position partners with the President in fulfilling duties; performs duties of the President in his/her absence.
​
TREASURER: Becky Doherty
This position keeps financial books in order, receives all payment vouchers and writes all checks for payment of bills; receives all cash and other income and makes bank deposits; remits PTSA membership dues and other fees to the PTA council; makes a monthly financial report; keeps the membership informed of all items relating to the PTA finances; works closely with the President and other event chairs; prepares books for semi-annual audit.

SECRETARY: Julie Lee
This position keeps and prepares minutes of all meetings, helps plan meeting agenda, keeps track of all important documents, and coordinates volunteers for the biannual fiscal audit of PTSA financial books.
​
These positions are for two-year terms and the current board members have already completed or are completing their term in these positions. Let us know if you are interested in these elected positions and the possibility of shadowing and learning the job this school year.

OTHER VOLUNTEER POSITIONS WITHIN VINLAND PTSA

*MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR: Lisa Nickel
This position uses MemberPlanet to maintain membership records, works with WA PTA on memberships, and organizes membership drives.

*VOLUNTEER/ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR: Open
This position coordinates with teachers to help them get assistance and keeps Room Parents advised of information helpful to teachers. This position also helps gather volunteers for PTSA events, through such online platforms as Signup.com or Signup Genius.
​
FUNDRAISER COORDINATOR(S): We have two committees for fundraising - one in the fall and one in spring. The Fall Fundraiser is typically smaller, but not always. Past fall fundraisers include selling wrapping paper and selling cookie dough. Spring fundraisers have a full-blown Auction, partial auction and selling flower bulbs. The options are wide open depending on interest. Typically, we try to incorporate classroom baskets and class art in any auction.

*STAFF APPRECIATION: Open
This position plans ways to give back to our teachers, through meals, thank you cards, gift cards, etc.

*SCHOOL STORE & SPIRIT WEAR: Leah Thompson
This position runs the school store, including selecting and purchasing items, restocking, inventorying, coordinating salespeople, maintaining records and handling funds. Spirit Wear is also sold through the Student Store and involves taking orders, purchasing from the supplier, and distributing to students.
*FAMILY FUN NIGHT COORDINATOR: Open
This position spearheads and helps put on our various family friendly events throughout the school year for all grade levels. PTSA Family Fun Nights in the past have included Bingo Night, Cookie decorating, Karaoke night, Spaghetti Feed, etc. Trick or Treat Street is one of our largest family fun nights and typically involves soliciting for candy donations, coordinating volunteers for setting up and decorating the school during no-school conference days in October and volunteers for running the event on the night of. There can be one person in charge of each event, but there must be a main coordinator for voting purposes.
BOOKFAIR COORDINATOR: Sonja Kelm
This position coordinates with Scholastic and the Vinland librarian to run two book fairs.
YEARBOOK: Ms. LaPorte and Ms. Lynch (PTSA Liaison: Jennifer Dixon)
This position takes pictures, gathers pictures from staff, students, and family (using @gmail.com), advertises, manages payments for yearbook, and works with Jostens to set up the yearbook.
FINS TO THE FINISH COORDINATOR: Open
Help organize our annual 5k family walk/run held each Spring.
REFLECTIONS COORDINATOR: Open
This position coordinates the National PTA Reflections Art Program, advertising for the program, coordinating display of entries and submission to the state.
